A Decade of Mentoring... Accented by Gold

The Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. membership and board of directors is requesting a donation to any and all of our programs.

The Major General Irene Trowell-Harris Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. is a chartered member of the National Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. operating in the Mid-Hudson Valley. The chapter is tax exempt under Internal Revenue Code 501 (c) (3) by virtue of this association.

2008 Tuition Assistance Dinner
The primary goal of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc. is to preserve the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen and to reach out to the youth of America and use the Tuskegee experience to mentor young people to successful and fulfilling lives and careers in aviation and aerospace. In keeping with this national goal the local chapter conducts three major initiatives. The longest standing and most important is the Tuition Assistance Program. Over the nine years of the program in excess of $80,000 has been awarded to more than seventy students entering college or other post secondary educational institutions. Last year we awarded $1,000 dollar grants to each of eleven students.

For the nine years of the Tuition Assistance Program the membership has funded the awards through various yearly fundraising events centered on the Tuition Assistance Dinner Dance in February. Corporate and Community Partners, political figures, Dinner Dance Journal Advertisements, merchandise sales and other activities have provided the revenue to award the grants each year.

Red Tail Youth Flying Program
In addition to the Tuition Assistance Program the chapter operates a one of a kind aviation mentor program, the Lee A. Archer, Jr., Red Tail Youth Flying Program. The objective of the Red Tails is to mentor and provide role models for Mid-Hudson Valley youth. Red Tails from the seventh grade through their senior year in high school receive ground and flight instruction with an ultimate goal of qualifying for an FAA Private Pilot Certificate
Hudson Valley Tuskegee Airmen Endowment Fund
For our 10th anniversary we are initiating a major capital fundraising campaign to permanently endow the scholarships as a lasting legacy. The ultimate goal is a fund of $250,000 to award ten $1,000 grants each year. If the Tuition Assistance Program is to continue in the long term we must provide a secure financial basis upon which to continue the awards that is not dependant on yearly fundraising

Family Day in the Park
Family Day in Downing Park is a community outreach event where community service agencies are brought together with inner city Newburgh families to expose the residents to the services available to them. Free food, games, music and other entertainment are provided to attract community members to the event to be exposed to the participating community agencies.

Assist in the day to day operation of the chapter. All of our members are volunteers and do not receive a salary. We do this because we care about the well being of our youth and the continued legacy building of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Your Donation will help to enrich the lives of our youth.
